Mission
The mission of Team Excel is to promote synchronized skating and prepare high quality synchronized skating teams for regional, national & international competitions in an environment that supports the personal growth and development of confidence in our athletes.
Values
Team Excel promotes a value-driven approach to sports competition. We are driven by the value of the development of youth as strong and competent individuals, the value of teamwork, and the value of volunteer participation.
Youth Development
We understand competitive skating within the context of the development of strong and competent individuals. Team Excel strives to create a supportive skating environment, where skaters are encouraged to grow, learn good sportsmanship, and have a positive competitive team experience. Serving youth and adults, we see competitive skating as a contribution to the development of healthy individuals.
Teamwork
Being a member of a team is an important life experience, important for the positive development of children and ongoing contribution to society. Synchronized skating offers a unique team experience. During a performance, each team member is expected to do exactly the same thing, at the same skill level, at the same time, to the beat of the same drum. As a member of a synchronized skating team, a skater learns about interdependence, which requires commitment, trust, and continuing contributions from each skater.
Each member of a synchronized skating team is expected to develop and improve their individual skating skills, take lessons and test in moves in the field, dance and freestyle. Each team member is expected to work toward the goals of the team regardless of their role on the team.
Volunteer Participation
Parents also have a role on their child(ren)’s skating team(s) – not to skate or to coach the team, but to support their children as they experience and learn about being a member of a team. Parental commitment – ensuring that skaters arrive prepared and ready to skate at each practice, promptly meeting financial obligations, modeling positive behavior, even in the face of adversity – is essential. Parental support also includes working behind the scenes on behalf of the team.
These values – positive development, teamwork, and volunteer contribution within the context of competitive training and performance excellence – are the foundation of Team Excel.
